Column Separation Vector graphics are not graphics where individual pixels of graphics are defined as is the case with raster/bitmaps, rather they are calculated from instructions which draw lines and shapes, and fill them in.

Many graphics programmes create graphics in vector format, and the information is lost upon conversion to raster for publication.

There are vector graphics available on the Internet, however require proprietary plug-ins for their function.

Enter Scaleable Vector Graphics, or SVG.
