The Internet has been in evolution for over ten years now.
Much of the early work of the net, was concerned with the publishing of academic or military information for the use of academics and military organisations around the world. It was text-based presentations and provided the raw data required. More recently, the whole focus of the net has changed, and the Internet is struggling to keep up with the changes being thrust upon it. One of the changes is how the information is presented to people. Today, presentation is almost as important as the information itself. Graphics are now commonplace on most we-sites, as will as other interfaces such as Flash, and QuickTime. Demand continues to grow for greater use of graphics, but bandwidth restrictions will continue to restrict their use for some time to come. The widely touted use of wide bandwidth delivery systems such as broadband, continue to languish in red tape, and it is likely that a significant proportion of the on-line population will maintain the use of dial-up modem systems for some time to come. |
